Squash & Racketball - Newsletter. - April 2016

Hi Everyone, Trust you have all fared well this season and stayed injury free! It's been awhile since I've sent a newsletter so apologies that this will be a bit long winded. However there is plenty going on to make you aware of. Club Force Day! Firstly it's Club Force Day tomorrow, 10am until 2pm, Saturday 2nd April 2016. This is an annual event where each section nominates work that needs doing in and around the club, everything from litter picking to painting. As a section we (whoever Kevin Morrison can persuade, more of that later...) perform a rolling maintenance program so we as a section don't need anything specific completing tomorrow. However in the spirit of the day we are looking for volunteers to turn up and help the other sections and house. The outside benches need a new coat of preservative to keep them in their 'Wildgoose Brown' colour. The cricket sidescreens will be getting their annual whitewash. Some ground repair will also be going on. Can anyone able to attend please let me know by emailing here: d_a_b@hotmail.com or posting on the Facebook page here: http://www.facebook.com/northerncrosbysquashclub or by texting/calling: 07879056393 Saturday 9th April Squash Section Presents Grand National Party £20 per person Includes: Bucks fizz on arrival, breakfast, races on large screen, Prizes for best dress, raffle and buffet after main race Non squash members and guests welcome Sign up now on club notice board!! There are a few spaces left. This event is raising money for OUR section, please support it! Team news! The racketball season finished a few weeks ago. The first team finished a creditable 3rd in the league. Excellent considering some of the extremely average players (Ade) who pitched in to make up numbers on weeks when they were short. The second team propped up the bottom of the league which was better than expected considering some of the extremely average players (Noaksey) who played. The squash season is only one week away from finishing. The men's teams have had a mixed season. There have been a few noticeable absences through injury which have left the teams struggling a little. Current standing as follows: 1st team sit 11th in the relegation zone of Div 2 West 2nd team sit 4th in Div 3 North West.  3rd team sit 9th in Div 3 North West and battling against relegation. 4th team sit 11th in Div 3 South West and already relegated. 5th team sit safe in 11th in Div 4 North West. 6th team sit very creditable 4th place in Div Central South with several juniors in the team. The women's teams are as follows: 1st team sit 5th in Div 1. 2nd team sit 1st in Div 3a.  Lighting! Our chairman Kevin Morrison has yet again done us proud. He has managed to secure funding from the club (and part funded from our section) to have all of the court lighting converted to LED. This will have the obvious benefits of brighter lighting, cheaper energy bills, and less maintenance. The program of works is in the planning phase so more information of dates and timescales to follow. Many thanks to Kevin for his commitment to the section ensuring our facilities are among the best in the region. The European Corporate Games 24th-26th June 2016! In further news there we have landed this event at Northern Squash and Racketball section. In recent years Liverpool Cricket Club have hosted the squash but this year it will be at Northern. This will have some impact on court availability on the weekend in question. Also we will need some volunteers to help over the weekend to ensure it's smooth running. More news of this to follow but you can read more information here: http://www.corporate-games.com/en-GB AGM! A date for the section AGM will be published shortly. As ever there will be a requirement for volunteers to make up the committee. It's your chance to help shape the section and make a difference. Remember, decisions are made by those who show up! If you don't like something then this is the time and place to broach it. However rather than just turn up with a problem, try and offer some solutions we may be able to implement.  And finally...! Some members may not be aware of what goes on behind the scenes to ensure the section functions from the practical side of maintenance to the monthly committee meetings regarding fundraising etc. Costs within the section are kept as low as possible in order to keep court booking costs low. This means that most of the maintenance within the section, painting, lighting, heating etc are undertaken by the members. When a light bulb goes on court, it's down to volunteers to erect the scaffolding, replace the bulbs and dismantle it again. It's not a skillful task however requires numbers to help. Similarly when the fans break on the heaters it's the same process that is required as well as members with electrical qualifications to swap out the motors. When future works are being planned it will be publicised and we will be asking for greater support from the section just to give up some time to pitch in. It's the same few faces who show up time and again. I'm aware that some of you probably weren't aware of this, but now you are. If you would like to offer your support or have any suggestions please speak to a committee member. The list on the notice board will be updated shortly! Produced by Damien Boyle S&R Communications Officer P.S. Ladies Final at 5pm Saturday 2nd April Heather Tweedle v Amy Barnes or Evi Khrol. Mens Final straight after, Mick Henderson v Peter Wake. For turning up to cheer at a final and reading this email right to the end Ade is buying your first drink. Cheers ??
